Open for business in India
10 January 2008
Clarksons have established a presence in the massively expanding shipping market in India. The new office in Delhi was opened in January this year and a second office in Mumbai (Bombay) is expected to follow before long.
Spearheading the development is Rob Lowe, a tanker broker with several years’ experience of the Far East shipping scene. His team includes a senior chartering man, an experienced tanker broker, and a trainee. The possibility of expanding into dry cargo chartering is under consideration.
Rob, who has project managed the move over the past eight months, says: “This is a great opportunity. The Indian Government imposes very strict rules on new businesses and a degree of patience is needed, but the market is extremely healthy and the fleet is growing quickly, so there should be plenty of good business.”
Clarkson Shipping Services India Pty Ltd occupy some 1,200 square feet in a smart new development in Saket, adjacent to a new shopping mall believed to be Asia’s largest, where their neighbours include P & O, Nedlloyd and Cargill.
