Spotlight on India
22 April 2008
To help promote the company’s recently-established presence in India, Clarksons held parties last week in Delhi (15th April) and Mumbai (17th April). Both were very well attended, the former by senior representatives from the Indian Oil Corporation and the latter by Indian owners and charterers, as well as by representatives from other Clarksons offices in the Far East.
Hosts on each occasion were the Managing Director of Clarksons’ Deep Sea Division, Bob Knight, and the head of Clarkson Shipping Services India, Rob Lowe. Their opening speeches were followed by presentations by the head of Clarkson Research, Dr Martin Stopford. In Delhi, he concentrated on the tanker market, the reasons for the past boom, and where he sees the market going. In Mumbai, where about 150 people were present, he discussed not only the tanker market but also the massive surge in the dry bulk market and the current high rates, driven by India as well as by China.
