Clarksons expands Derivatives offering with launch of Container FFA desk.

Share

Clarksons is pleased to announce the expansion of its Derivatives department with the launch of a dedicated Containers Forward Freight Agreements (FFA) desk, enabling clients to hedge against the volatility of container freight rates through futures contracts.

The new desk will be led by Peter Stallion who joins the London office with extensive cross-commodity experience. Peter is a pioneer in the container derivatives space, having created and brokered the first OTC and exchange settled Container FFAs (FBX, CME) as well as executing the first SGX-listed Container FFA trade. Peter joins Clarksons in the run-up to several prospective container futures contracts launching on two separate exchanges by the end of the year.

"We’re delighted to welcome Peter to Clarksons. His expertise is instrumental in establishing our Container FFA desk - now the eighth within the division. The expansion reflects our commitment to growth and to providing a comprehensive risk-management offering to our clients. Container FFAs represent a dynamic and evolving market, with potential to bring much-needed stability to shipping businesses."

Managing Director, Derivatives

"The container freight market is inherently volatile, influenced by a wide range of global factors. Recent years have seen dramatic fluctuations due to events such as the closure of the Suez Canal, drought through the Panama Canal, the influx of new tonnage and shifting contract volumes. Container freight derivatives have emerged as a vital tool in managing this volatility. The swaps and options we offer will provide clients with greater control over price risk. I’m excited to join Clarksons and collaborate with some of the industry’s leading paper and physical brokers. I’m confident in the value this desk will bring to our clients and the wider team, and I feel that Clarksons is the optimum place to drive container FFAs forward with its unrivalled physical and financial markets presence."
