The Clarkson Foundation (“the Foundation”) is delighted to provide Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) with the support to fund a new cytotoxic pharmacy unit that is set to play a vital role in the Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (“GOSH”), which is currently under construction.
The cytotoxic pharmacy unit will be crucial for cancer care, producing chemotherapy for the treatment of both day care and longer stay patients. The pharmacy will include two new isolators for safe drug preparation; this more advanced equipment allows the pharmacy team to provide precise and personalised medicines for the hospital’s young patients. The new pharmacy will mean that chemotherapy production capacity will increase by around 40%, meaning more transformative treatments can be created for children with cancer. Furthermore, its location within the cancer day care unit and proximity to the cancer inpatient wards will allow staff to devote more time to supporting young patients during treatment, rather than coordinating the transport of time‑sensitive medications.
Children’s health has always been a core priority of The Clarkson Foundation. Every day, five children in the UK are diagnosed with cancer, and it remains the leading cause of death in children aged one to 14 in the UK. GOSH already treats the highest numbers of children with cancer in the UK, often with the rarest and most complex forms of paediatric cancers.
The construction for the Children’s Cancer Centre, supported by GOSH Charity’s ‘Build it. Beat it.’ appeal, is currently underway at the hospital, with the project breaking ground in June 2025. GOSH Charity exists to support the hospital’s most urgent needs and is currently in the midst of its biggest ever fundraising appeal to help make this vision a reality, committing to raising £300million to help build the future of children’s cancer care.
Liz Tait, GOSH Charity’s Director of Fundraising, said: "We are so grateful to the Clarkson Foundation for their incredible donation, which will allow the hospital to have a new cytotoxic pharmacy producing much-need chemotherapy for children and young people undergoing cancer treatment. This facility will be a part of the new Children’s Cancer Centre, which is under construction and we anticipate will open to patients in 2029. These cutting-edge new facilities will make such a difference for the seriously ill children and young people going through one of the toughest times in their lives, and help ensure that they get the best chance, and best childhood possible.”
Jeff Woyda, Chair of The Clarkson Foundation, said:
“Every child deserves the best possible care when facing something as devastating as cancer. By donating to GOSH Charity and supporting GOSH with this new pharmacy, it will help ease the journey for young patients and their families and ensure children in the new centre can access the treatment they urgently need. We are very proud to support this initiative and the work of this world leading hospital and their amazingly dedicated staff.”
Andi Case, CEO of Clarkson PLC, said:
“This grant has been made possible by the generosity of all at Clarksons and the commitment of the trustees of the Foundation. We are proud to be supporting this phenomenal new development, which will open shortly after both Clarksons and GOSH celebrate their respective 175th anniversaries. GOSH do truly amazing work that positively impacts the lives of children and their families. We are proud to play our small part in helping GOSH’s pioneering work towards medical advances for years to come.”
